Yesterday I was greeted by my wife holding a “Sorry you were out. Pick up your parcel from your local post office” leaflet from the Royal Mail, which was slightly irritating as I wasn’t out at all. I try not to leave the house unless it’s essential or I have to work.
Along with this leaflet was a bemused looking wife: “What have you ordered this time?” she said.
“Nothing, honest!” I said with that confused look on my face. What the hell had I ordered?
So this morning, on my second day off I jump on the bus to a post office that isn’t even my local post office (passing three that could be considered my “local” post office) to pick up this mysterious parcel. I get in, show my ID and while signing, notice that it’s got Japanese writing all over it. Had my brother in law Yuuichi sent me something awesome from Japan?
Oh my god, maybe it’s Yakuza 4! (I know it’s not out until March, but when excitement is involved logic quickly leaves). I get handed my parcel…from China (upside down Chinese does look like Japanese at 10 am)!
Who the hell is sending me shit from China? Did I drunkenly browse Ebay again? I leave and as I’m far too excited to wait until I get home to find out what the hell it is I open my parcel on some random high street in North London…
… Holy shit it’s my Posterity copy of Pier Solar! An Indie Mega Drive RPG I ordered way back in 2008 and forgot all about, accompanied with a letter from Gwenael “Fonzie” Godde and Water Melon Games apologising for the two year delay. Apology well and truly accepted.
The game came complete with a sturdy cardboard case, a certificate of authenticity, a poster and a sticker set and has already won pride of place amongst my other video game treasures, and believe me I have some awesome treasures. Including a signed Hideo Kojima postcard right next to my pillow.
Unfortunately though I don’t have a Mega Drive in my house and will have to go to the old country to dig around my parents loft (which is filled with about 20 years of gaming hardware and software) to find my old Mega CD and Mega Drive.
So until then you will have to wait for my review of this homage to the 16-bit era or go to piersolar.com and order yourself a copy of 16-bit greatness. I’m off to try and win myself a white Sega Nomad. I fancy playing on that in 2013!
haha – great story – makes me wish I’d have ordered a copy myself – looking forward to your review
Thanks glad you liked it, I promise to get a review up sometime soon. Just need to find my old megadrive or buy a “new” multimega lol
