2K has finally announced exactly what us BioShock 2 fans wanted – some real single player DLC, not some silly add-on that can be played alone, but in fact represents the most annoying parts of the main game – Protector Trials.
To the point, 2K has announced Minerva’s Den, a solo story driven add-on that expands the story and introduces us to new characters, locations, plasmids and enemies. 2K say Minerva’s Den is a “self-contained” experience in which you play the role of a brand new character. This newcomer has teamed up with Brigid Tenenbaum to unravel a dictator’s stranglehold on a key district in Rapture – Rapture Central Computing, a never-before-seen area.
You’ll have access to new high-tech weaponry and a devastating new Plasmid to take on the more dangerous Splicers, and a new breed of Big Daddy. You can also upgraded Security Bots that throw rockets and lightning bolts.
“Minerva’s Den is a substantial addition that will give players more of what they’re looking for: more story, more narrative, more gameplay and more of Rapture,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “The core team has created an exciting product that further enhances the mystery and allure of the world of Rapture. Minerva’s Den will be a fitting conclusion to the BioShock 2 saga.”
No release date or price has been announced, but it has been confirmed for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. I can also confirm that we can’t wait to put the diving suit back on and show the residents of Rapture how it’s done.
